Do I need to requalify?
Your CCARE qualification is valid for two consecutive permits — your original permit and one renewal — as long as there's no lapse between them. You requalify at your second renewal, not every time.
When to start
Permits are valid for two years. You can file to renew up to four months before expiration, and NJSP recommends starting 3–4 months early — the background investigation takes time, and starting late risks a lapse.
What it costs
Renewal costs the same $200 in state fees as a new application, and requires updated training documentation, references, and a fresh background investigation.
